‘Tis the season. Let’s make it always the season.

‘Tis the season of giving, and although I love this season of the year, there is a problem.

Why do we have a season for giving?

Giving is a fundamental human trait. It is one of our greatest powers. If we were not giving of our time, our skills, our wealth, our friendship, our love, the list goes on, we would have never made it through the Stone Age.

We are not the biggest, fastest, or strongest beasts in the jungle or savannah. If we had not helped each other great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great grandpa Ugh would have become dinner and we would not be here. Together we survived. Together we created feats of engineering. Together we conquered diseases. Together we traveled to the stars, built great cities, and innovated to improve lives.

Take some time this season to think about giving, not just this week but next year and the next and the next. Take time to share the blessings you have, whatever they are. If you do it, someone else will do it; and before you know it, we are all doing it.

If you celebrate something, anything this time of year, may it be glorious. And if you don’t celebrate, may your time also be glorious.
