Are you proud of your work? If thousands were to watch you do your work on TV, would you be proud of what you do?
Artists sign their work. Writers sign their work. Every performing artist and athlete has their name in a program and is known.
What if, like those artists, writers, performers, and athletes, your reputation and future potential relied on your name? Would you step it up and do your absolute best on everything you touch?
I once worked for a company whose CEO was hesitant to let employees wear apparel adorned with the company logo. His thinking was that he didn’t want the company’s name sullied by some employee’s bad behavior. For example, he didn’t want an employee wearing a jacket with the logo on it being seen getting sick outside some seedy bar. That would put the company in a bad light.
I get that. And it’s no different for you.
Every bit of your work is a billboard for you. If it is mediocre, you are mediocre. If you just go through the motions, that’s your logo. If you just mail it in, that’s how you become known.
If you want to rise to greatness, if you want to be a leader, if you want to be a professional, you must do work you’re proud of. You must do work you are proud to put your name on. You must do work that sets an example.
Take a look at your work. Are you proud? Do you like your name on it? Don’t settle.
