The power of “good morning.”

It’s not just something nice or something right to do; it’s a necessary part of strategy.

Relationships are everything in business. Every customer, employee, investor, and supplier is a person, and people connect in relationships.

No good relationship, however, begins with business; it begins with “good morning.” They begin with a human touch, a human approach that nudges goodwill and warmth.

I once had a team member who said that people in other departments did not like him. After a little inquiry, I found that the people in other departments thought of my team member as cold and “only about the business.” My solution? Go out each morning and say “good morning” to people in other departments. Ask about their weekend. Ask about their families. Ask them if there’s anything they need. Get to know people …as people… not objects necessary to get work done.

There’s power in “good morning.” There’s power to get people together to work as a team. There’s power to connect and care. In two simple words, there’s fuel to move your business forward by growing and maintaining relationships. It’s strategic.

Get moving. Get more human. Get the “good morning” habit.

  1. Something I’ve noticed is that folks aren’t actually rude, but are not ready for the day. A mentor once asked me if I was ready for the day, and I recall returning a puzzled expression. They suggested in the time before being with people that I greet myself and wish myself to have a good day. Sounds small but it was a life changer for me!!
