You can change everything.

Love. I believe it changes everything.

I have seen the hardest of hearts turn to jelly and become the kindest of hearts when they were connected to love. It seems to be the most powerful force in the universe. It can take losers and make them winners. It can take the broken and make them whole. It can take hopeless situations and turn them around. I have seen it and felt it, and you can find examples everywhere at almost any time.

But what is it? What is love? I was asked that question once, and I had to stop. I simply could not find the right answer until it hit me. Love is not a feeling (at least not always); love is action. It is when you are driven by a desire to take your own needs out of the equation and do things for someone else without any thought of the cost. As I told someone once, when you are willing to take care of someone else, no matter how much of a pain it might be, that is love. No warm fuzzies, just a drive to decrease self-interest to help another; that’s where you find love.

So, although we might see ads and entertainment that point to all of the emotions, passion, and romance in “love,” true love is not all of those things. It can include those things, but they are not a requirement. The requirement is an outward look at another to help them regardless of the work, the effort, and whether we want to or not. Sometimes, it may even involve instances when the other person is not someone you are happy with, but love says, “Do it. It’s not about you. Be there. Help.”

Think about it. Take action to love. Take action to do something for someone. Take action to change everything.
