You matter!

“I’m not going to change the world. You’re not going to change the world. But we can help – we can all help.” -Cristiano Ronaldo

Beginning on June 6, 1944, the world would be saved from a madman—not by Churchill, Eisenhower, de Gaulle, or Montgomery; it would be saved by a bunch of men whose names the vast majority of us will never know. They changed the course of the world. Did you read that? I said, THE. WORLD. And they will not have movies made about them or long biographies written telling their stories, yet, they influenced the future, including everything you and I do today.

Never believe that you have no value. Never fall prey to the idea that your work makes no impact. Those soldiers had no idea that their courage would allow humans to walk on the moon, personal computers, eradication of multiple diseases, the internet, mobile phones, and the list goes on.  Likewise, you have no idea what the impact of your life will be.

So, keep at it, keep going, and do what you do with pride. Keep getting better and strive for unique, amazing, and the enhancement of all those around you. You matter, just like those young men who landed on the beaches of Normandy. Go do some good today and every day!

“Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world; indeed, it’s the only thing that ever has.” -Margaret Mead

  1. Great reminder, Neal!! Last week for Veterans Day I rewatched Band of Brothers and Saving Private Ryan and this week it’s the new Ken Burns series on the American Revolution. All celebrate the contributions of countless ordinary people who acted in extraordinary ways in times of need and tumult. We all need to constantly remind ourselves of the power of voice and action, especially now when powerful and influential ‘leaders’ seemingly would just have us fall into line without answering the hard questions. The enduring lesson of the American Experiment is that we each govern ourselves and with that comes awesome potential and responsibility. We are born with unbounded potential for good but cannot give our voice or agency over lightly.
