This is the time of year when there is a lot of selling going on. It makes sense. Most businesses make their nut during this time of year so selling is paramount. It’s too bad that we’ve made this season so commercial but that’s for another post.
Anyway, selling, why this? My problem with sales has to do with its integrity. Consider this question, “When you sell, are you trying persuade customers to buy something out of selfish motives that benefit you or are you trying to benefit customers by helping them accomplish their goals?”
Frankly, I don’t care about your company’s needs or the salesperson’s commission, I care about my needs. Selfish on my part? Yes. But I am the customer and I came to you for your help, your knowledge, your inventory of products, I didn’t come here to be manipulated or sold, I came here to be served, yes, served.
When a business acts in a way that tries to get me to buy something, I go away. When a business acts in a way that tries to help me achieve my goals, I stay and listen – and maybe even buy. I know I am not alone in this. If you’re in sales, think about it.
